Devil, Royalty, and War

「A king or a demon, we call by different names but fear them the same way.

All the power, greed, death, and love that surround you and me...

Will this war finally end if no one was born different from the beginning?」

Cliche as it might sound, I have always been fascinated by the imagery of angels, devils, and royalty. Among all their features, I seem to be most interested in horns. (Might be because my zodiac sign is Capricorn, a half-goat creature)

Origin of
the Theme

Pann, one of my most drawn original characters, is a representation of my edgy-side relationship with the outside world.

He was a former royalty member. He feasts human flesh, and is confined for his crimes after the Devils have fallen from the throne.

I wanted to depict the inequality between Devils(people with horns) and other humans. Exceptional beings that stand out from the norms...they could be Royalty one second, or they could be slaves the next moment, just like how the younger me was a cool kid in one place, but an outcast in another.

Although I have certain characters drawn repeatedly, I haven't yet established a clearer view of the world they live in before the "key piece" was made.

「A half-devil and half-human girl accidentally runs into a corner of war ruins. Time had covered the bodies with flowers and dust as if the violence had never happened. The innocent child took a daisy from the tip of the rusted sword and left, continuing to live the very peace and freedom her ancestors sacrificed their lives for.」

"Rebirth", which the collection was named after, established an overall atmosphere of the world. This world of 〈Rebirth:〉, much like my hometown Taiwan, is a place where peace was built on top of countless wars and is still constantly under the pressure of being attacked.

Through this piece, I wanted to remind myself how ignorant and lucky I was to be able to live freely and safely on this land where many have bled and fought for. So Devil, Royalty, and War became the main theme of this world.
